I purchased these tables from a local couple last September and have been sitting on them ever since. They were made by a master carpenter and you can see from the craftsmanship.
As you can see from the before pictures, the top was painted in a black chalk paint while the remainder was stained in a red mahogany. The story was the daughter painted over the original stain and varnish and well, it was pretty rough. 😀
I decided to sand down the top to the natural grain and stained it with Dark Walnut. I am amazed how beautiful the top turned out. The pictures do not capture how much detail and texture is in the wood.
I sanded the remainder of the piece and applied 3 coats of Ash MFP. The top was protected with 3 coats of tung oil which deepened the details of the grain even more. The paint was protected with homemade foodgrade beeswax.
Are these pieces for outdoor use? Not necessarily, but they are light and can be taken in and outside rather easily and we thought it would be nice to stage them outside in the beautiful weather.😀
So...if you are looking for a rustic Harvest coffee and end table set, look no further.
