Record table in Bayberry Fusion Mineral Paint

brentmacneil

I met Megan a week ago when she purchased a dresser from me. I appreciated her right off the bat because she said she wanted the piece, gave me a time to come get it and was on point with everything. Before picking up the dresser she asked if I had other pieces for her so I showed her what I had and she picked an unfinished kitchen table and an MCM end table. We talked about colours and style and she wanted them done in Bayberry from FMP mixed with Dark Walnut stain. Easy Peasy.

The MCM table was initially done in a chalk white and stained top without a topcoat for protection. The inside was also painted poorly in the same white.

The first step was to sand down the body to remove the majority of paint and brush marks. Next was to sand off the top of the piece completely to the natural grain.

As you heard me say more then once, chalk paint removal is not easy and very time consuming.🤢🤮 But sure enough, it was done. Even the small wooden handles took a bit of elbow grease to strip down to the natural grain.

The last step was the inside. This piece has slots inside to hold records, so sanding it was a chore. Unfortunately, the majority of it was done by hand.

Once the sanding was done, I applied 3 coats of the Bayberry on the inside and outside of the piece. The top and handles were stained in Dark Walnut. Ths stain was protected in 3 coats of Tung Oil while the paint was protected with home made food grade beeswax.

Next for her is the kitchen table that will be done for her in the next couple of days.

I would like to thank Megan for the work and the easy communication along the way.

FYI.. we are aware that the handles were crooked in the pics. We realized this after the pics were taken but quickly fixed when Megan was here for pick up.

Please see before and after pics.
