I am back with another vase using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and a few other AS products. I am loving the unlimited versatility of this paint!!!!
Initially I had a plan all set out before I started. Well, that changed quickly as I got wrapped up in the excitement along the way. There was sooooo many ways of building the vase that I just went with the flow.

I initially painted the entire piece in Athenian Black using a slapping motion with AS's largest round brush. I purposely loaded my brush when utilizing the technique. Of course every now and then I changed things up and added other textures but this was my base coat.
Next step was grabbing a sponge and AS's Venetian Plaster Medium and applying it to the top and bottom of the vase to give it more texture.

After everything dried, I dabbed some Country Grey on the plaster. I then dry brushed the middle section and LOVED how the texture popped. Next up was applying Chicago Grey. I applied it more heavily on the top of the vase and some of the bottom of the vase and random spots throughout the piece. I did the same with Old Ochre but this was the colour I used the least. French Linen (one of my favourite accent colours), was used a lot throughout the piece in varies styles to create some depth with the other colours. I would have liked to use more but I ran out. It was here where I noticed that drybrushing over the textured plaster really started pulling the piece together.
After stepping back and looking at the piece, I felt the contrast was to stark in places so I grabbed the sponge and dabbed some black in areas where I applied the plaster. Some spots were heavier then others but again it added another dimension and texture to the piece. I see myself using this technique on furniture.😀
I decided to put the vase aside and walk away for a bit but placed it where it would often be in my line of sight. I do this when I feel I need to add more or make changes. Sure enough, the vase was back up on the table where I was applying colours in the areas where the plaster was added. I noticed the biggest change when I dried brushed black as it really made the texture pop. After this, I thought I was done. 😀
The next morning, I was up early and the vase was back on the table. The last touches for me was using the black on the plaster areas and applying it using the sponge and drybrushing. I felt it needed to be darker and needed more texture. The last step was applying AS clear wax. Finally done!!!!👏👏👏👏
The thing with this stuff is it is very subjective. What one appreciates, the other may not. I pass by it now and feel I could throw it up on the table and do something else. The limits are endless.
You will be seeing this as an accessory in my posts moving forward.
The table in this post is for sale if anyone is interested.
Please see before and after pics.
