I initiated communicated with Kelly about a side table that I had finished but sold to someone else. She then saw some of my other work and reached out about redoing a secretary desk that was HAND BUILT by her grandfather.
We exchanged many texts and shared ideas and it was clear how important this piece was to her and how she adored her late grandfather. I assured her I would do my best to respect and preserve as much of his work while refinishing the piece.
Once meeting Kelly and her husband it was clear to me why the piece was so valuable to her. This man built this desk for his wife with materials that were available to him and did an incredible job. We again shared ideas and I highlighted some challenges that I would face refinishing the piece.
This desk was a virtual overhaul, not necessarily to "fix" things but to freshen things up while still appreciating the rustic beauty of the piece.
As issues arose, it led me to pivot and come up with solutions and Kelly was amazing in trusting me.
The end result was a fusion of what Kelly initially wanted and what I had to do to make things work.

Paint used for this piece was Algonquin MFP purchased @trendosinteriors in Georgetown. The wood was stained in Dark Walnut and protected with a poly while the entire piece was protected and freshened up with homemade foodgrade beeswax.
