Dining table and chairs in Chateau

brentmacneil

As many of you know, I picked this set up months ago from Candy who was downsizing. After grabbing it, the set sat in my basement a while before I decided to tackle it. Like always, I initally saw this set in Ash or black with dark stain but as you can see I went in the opposite direction.😀

I opted to paint the piece in Chateau and do a custom tan wash on the tabletop and seats of the chairs.

First was the base where I added 4 coats of Chateau FMP after sanding.

After scraping and sanding the tabletop I laid a base layer of Provincial Stain. I did not like it as the yellow and orange bled through. Before it could dry, I was adding another layer of Dark Walnut Stain and that did the trick. After this I added a tan wash on top of the stain made from 50% water and 50% Algonquin FMP. This allowed all the grains to bleed through the tan finish, giving it a softer finish. As much as I liked it, I added another wash after the first dried.

Next was the chairs and this is where my patience was tested. After sanding and cleaning, 2 coats of paint was added to everything minus the seats. Once done, I stained and washed the seats the same as the tabletop. Next, 2 more coats of paint was added to the chairs.

Knowing it was a kitchen table and would get a lot of use, I decided the entire piece would need to be protected with a durable polycrylic. I added 3 coats of polycrylic to the table top, 2 to the seats on the chairs and 1 on the remainder of the set. TADA!!!!!

I would gather MANY homes have a very similar set in them right now and while functional, most would happily get rid of them if they could and "upgrade". These pieces are solid wood that are proven to be more durable then what you get in stores now. See what a facelift can do?

Luckily for me a former buyer saw the video I made last week and told me to send her a sneak peak before I advertised on Marketplace. Well, I sent her a video 2 days ago and this piece has found a new home at their family cottage.😀

I would like to thank Candy for reaching out to me months ago asking if I wanted this set. I owe you one Candy.👊
