Dining table looking handsome in Ash Fusion Mineral Paint

I picked this table up locally over a year ago and it has been sitting in my basement as I waited to pick up chairs. Since it has sat for a while and had no luck finding chairs, I decided to restore the piece.

When I picked it up, 1 leg was pretty much falling off but knew this just needed to be reglued. Overall the piece was in decent shape.

After strapping and regluing the leg, I pulled all the brass cat claws feet off and soaked them in vinegar overnight. Next the piece was scrubbed and sanded.

Once I started sanding, it quickly came to my attention that there was 5 coats of stain, paint and topcoat that I needed to get through to get to the natural grain. Needless to say, it took a while.

Once to the natural grain, I put a layer of Dark Walnut stain on the top and painted the underside of the drop-leafs and the posts and legs in Coal Black FMP. After 3 coats of paint I protected the finish with homemade all natural beeswax. I then added 3 coats of matte polycrylic topcoat on the stained top. Lastly, I scrubbed the brass cat claws and repainted then with a mix of antique brass and oil rubbed paint to compliment both the stain and paint. After this, the claws were glued to the feet.

This piece may not be for everyone but those who love Duncan Phyfe Antiques will appreciate and value this restoration.

As seen in the pics, the table will accommodate both small and big spaces due to the drop-leafs as well as (2) 12" leafs that are available.

I believe the stain and paint choices selected keeps the piece a timeless classic.
