Dresser and Tallboy makeover in Hazelwood Fusion Mineral Paint

brentmacneil

Liz initially reached out to me about some of the work she had seen of mine and made some inquiries about any unfinished inventory I may have had. We chatted back and forth for a while so I suggested we talk on the phone. Once talking, I asked a few questions about her existing bedroom furniture, wall/floor colour and existing decor. Although I had some unfinished inventory, I told her I felt what I had would not compliment what she currently had and the direction she was going in. Essentially, I lost a sale. 😀

I told Liz I would help in her search and send pieces I found and she do the same with me. We shared pieces back and forth but in many cases they sold quickly. I eventually found this set and sent it to her and told her I would not hesitate to grab it and she did.

Eventually Liz and her husband brought the pieces to the house and I was immediately happy with what I saw. We consulted a bit, and shared my views what I thought would look good and provided the rationale behind it.

When Liz left I had two design ideas in mind but favored one over the other. Later I changed my design idea to the second one and sent several videos to Liz providing my rationale behind the changes. Thankfully Liz agreed and I moved forward.

The entire piece required a hardware overhaul with new knobs and pulls that were refinished in matte black paint. The 2 upper row of drawers on the

tallboy and the upper row on the long dresser were sanded and stained in Special Walnut Gel Stain then hand rubbed with bottom of the can Dark Walnut gunk to make it more rustic. All stained drawers were protected with 3 coats of Tung Oil. The remainder of both pieces were painted in 3 coats of Hazelwood MFP and protected in homemade foodgrade beeswax.

I am pleased with the end result and hope Liz will be happy by adding these new pieces in their newly designed bedroom.

Please see before and after pics as well as a pic of the aforementioned work on the stained drawers.

You are welcome to check my page for other available pieces to purchase or simply follow me as I post pieces weekly. I also have an Instagram account under the same name.
