Before I share my story about this dresser, I have to tell you that this piece looks MUCH better in person than the pics and videos have captured. It is VERY deep and moody. I think it is my favourite piece to date.🤘🤘🤘🤘

While I was out for a run, I saw this sad looking dresser on the curb waiting to be taken to the landfill. I stopped, checked it out and loved the size and look of the piece. Upon returning home from my run, I grabbed the truck and picked it up. Once home, it sat for months.
With my recent introduction to AS chalk paint I knew this was a piece that would work well as a moody, rustic piece.

Aubusson Blue is a great colour and I knew I would be pairing that with either Anthenian Black and/or Black Wax.
After a clean and sanding, I applied several coats of the blue. I stripped the top completely knowing I would be applying a stain there. Coming from a mineral paint background and working with synthetic brushes, this was vastly different.😀Texture...it is all about texture. I found my relationship with my brush and paint very different.🤔
After applying the blue, I moved on to installing new handles. I loved the original ones but 3 had broken handles so I had to order a new set that was not a direct match in size. I also used this to my advantage as I found the placement of the original handles to be narrow. I measured and drilled out the handles wider then originally placed and filled the holes from the original handles.

Next up was staining the top. As you know, I almost always go with Dark Walnut stain but in this case went with Provincial Stain. I think it shows the wood grain more and it compliments the handles much better. After the stain dried, I added a coat of matte finish polycrylic.
Remember when I said texture? I decided to drybrush the piece with the black to achieve the moodiness I was looking for. I LOVE the result.
Once the drybrushing was completed I waxed the piece in AS's clear wax.
The final step was putting on the new handles and BOOM...we are done.
To achieve this look using AS's chalk paint was an absolute pleasure. Painting should be fun and this certainly was.
For those who follow me, you know I love moody pieces and I LOVE this piece. The pics do not do it justice.
Let me know what you think.
The size of this side table/dresser, adds to the versatility of the piece and could be used for many things in any room in the house. It is a conversation piece for sure.
