Terresa and I talked about doing this piece a long time and we finally got around to it.
This piece is the upper portion of an old rustic hutch Teresa bought years ago that she wanted refinished and hung up on her outside patio wall.
We initially went back and forth on a mix of Paisley and Prairie Sunset on the piece to match the fabric on her patio furniture but we both decided Prairie Sunset from FMP was the way to go. We made the decision to wait until after it was painted if we should add some spot sanding or drybrishing to further antique the piece.
After a thorough scrubbing and sanding, I applied SEVERAL coats of Prairie Sunset.
Initially Terresa wanted to keep the tombstone doors on the piece but after taking them off I introduced the idea of keeping them off and she agreed.
So many coats were applied I had to get a second jar of paint. Luckily for me, The Barn Door Store in Milton had some and bailed me out of what could have been a sticky situation not meeting my deadline.
Due to the wood being rough, putting an outdoor topcoat on evenly before drying posed a challenge so I opted to purchase a spray on topcoat. Unfortunately due to the weather getting cold I gave Terresa the can and promised her I would add 3 coats next year when warm enough before it goes up on the wall.
It takes a bit to envision how it would look based on our pics but I think it will look superb once up on the wall. It will compliment Terresa's deck and furniture quite well.
Again, I need to thank Tina from The Barn Door for helping me out with the last can of Prairie Sunset. Luckily for me, I now have a new place to get my paint when needed. I look forward to seeing more of her in the future.
Lastly, I would like to thank Terresa for all the work she has given me. I believe through purchase or commission work, I have done 9 pieces for Terresa. It has been fun to say the least.
