Small sideboard in custom Blue Fusion Mineral Paint

brentmacneil

Michelle reached out to me about a recent sideboard I did and that she wanted me to do one of her own pieces in the same colour. She also offered to donate 3 pieces to me so I was game for both offers.

When I arrived at Michelle's place in Rockwood I was greeted by her ultra cool hubby Sean. Why is he ultra cool? Well, he is very chill BUT he is an adventure rider like myself. Once I saw the bikes, my attention quickly shifted to motorcycles. Long story short...what was supposed to be a 10 minute pick up turned into 1hr+ of babbling on about bikes, offroad riding...

Since there was 4 pieces in total to carry I had to do 2 trips. The second trip was not as long as the first but much longer then needed.😀

When I asked how Michelle wanted it done she said, "just do it in your blue". Her reference was my custom blue I made up for the 2 sideboards I recently finished.

The piece was sanded down to it's natural grain and 3 coats of my custom blue was applied to the piece. After this it was dry brushed with Coal Black FMP. The paint was then protected with homemade food grade beeswax.

The top was stained in Dark Walnut and protected with 3 coats of tung oil. The inside was in rough shape so I sanded it, applied a coat of Dark Walnut stain and 2 coats of tung oil.

I would like to both thank and apologize to Michelle for the business and donation of 3 pieces? Why apologize? Maybe the right term is apologize in advance for when I drop it off as I will most likely hunt Sean down so we both can stare at his bikes in the freezing cold and babble on like 2 teenagers.😀

The paint used to mix this recent batch of custom blue was purchased at The Barn Door Studio in Milton. Go see Tina for all your paint needs and grab a coffee in the Cafe there. ☕☕☕😀😀

Lighting this time of year has become a challenge capturing the true tone of the blue and drybrushing and you can see the colour variations in some of the pics. Trust me when I say this colour is beautiful.

Please check out the before and after pics.
