Susan reached out to me after seeing one of my posts on the Renew_and_Restorations page and asked if I would be interested in doing a piece for her. After 1or 2 texts we were on the phone talking business right away. She said she was drawn to the recent chest I did but more importantly my write up and how it showed that I communicate with my customers while working on pieces. Susan was very easy to deal with and at the same time meant business. She wanted the piece dropped off so it can get done.
When Susan and her husband dropped the piece off, she had an idea of what she wanted. It was interesting to see our design ideas were closely matched. A plan was set and Susan and her husband were on their way.
The piece overall was in great condition. Initially after sanding and staining I was disappointed in how golden the Dark Walnut stain turned out on the wood. Since Susan said she wanted it rustic, I dug out the gunk at the bottom on the can wiped it on a rag and worked it into the wood. The rustic looking end result can be seen in the pics.

Susan wanted the original brown coloured window insert painted and that was an excellent choice.
I removed the metal clips off the handles and reconditioned them while sanding and restaining the remainder. The combination popped with the Ash and Dark Walnut stain on the hutch. The entire piece was protected using a homemade foodgrade beeswax.
The interior of the piece was worn so I restrained it and buffed it with natural beeswax.
I think our collaboration on the design worked out wonderfully and we changed a dated piece into a rich looking modern/rustic piece.
