So....who likes to gamble? Those who know me well know that when I am not doing commission work, I like to "gamble" on some of my own pieces. What does this gamble entail? Unique pieces, unique colours and unique finishing styles. I could play it safe and follow trends (which I am pretty poor at regardless) but who does not like to roll the dice to see what happens?😀😀😀
Case and point the piece you see before you. I picked this up from a local couple a year ago and have been sitting on it since. It wasn't until last week I decided I was going to give "Willow" a go.
On my journey into my local Home Hardware for some soap I walked over to see what they had in Bluestone House paint. Low and behold there was a sale on select colours. I saw this colour and I said out loud, "this is interesting".
I left the store and came home and jumped online to see if I could find any pieces with this colour. Unfortunately, I saw one pic of one piece. In typical fashion I let this sit with me. I gave myself 2 days to see if I would let it go. Well, we all know what happened. 😝
The entire desk was sanded thoroughly with the top and drawers taken down to the natural grain. I decided to stain the top in Special Walnut Gel stain as well as the wood handles on each drawer. The remainder of the piece was painted in 4 coats of the Bluestone House paint. The stained top and handles were protected with 2 coats of tung oil while the paint was protected with homemade foodgrade beeswax.
Whether this is a gamble or I took a risk picking something different, who knows? Some say, with no risk, there is no reward. At the end of the day we pride ourselves in doing unique pieces, so at least we are walking the talk. 😀
Willow is a 100% solid wood desk made by Knechtel that can be utilized for many things in many places throughout your living space.
Why did I call this girl "Willow" you ask? Because Bluestone House gave this colour the same name.🤪
