Restored tables in Hazelwood Fusion Mineral Paint

brentmacneil

Maybe I am not a 1 trick pony after all?

Yes, I know Ash and Dark Walnut is my thing but what can I say, I love it. I have been told recently that lighter colours work for me and I am not sure that is sage advice, but what the heck....time for a change.🤪

Liz had these 2 tables dropped off when her husband came to pick up their bedroom suite I just finished. As you can see it was the typical black painted/burgundy stained modern table set. Liz and I shared ideas with colour combinations and she initially settled on a dark walnut (of course) stained top with a Hazelwood frame.

Once sanding the top I loved in natural grain knowing it would get darker and richer with tung oil so I introduced the idea to Liz and she agreed to proceed. Liz has had her house completely renovated recently and has gone fairly modern so I figured keeping the top natural would compliment the clean/fresh decor.

After painting 3 coats of Hazelwood MFP, I added 3 coats of tung oil to the top. I also liked the idea of a painted border on the table top to give it some added pizazz. The hardware was reused since it complimented the fresh new modern look. Once done, a coat of homemade foodgrade beeswax was added to the Hazelwood for added protection.

See, I can do Modern! Not everything needs to be Rustic. In all seriousness, I welcome the diversity to my portfolio.

Whether I am a 1 trick pony or not, I appreciate the end result.
