I am going to call this little guy Napolean since he is full of attitude and bravado. Melanie unexpectedly dropped this piece off while picking up another piece I put up for sale. We never discussed price, outside of making it look like the piece she bought from me.
At first glance, the piece had SEVERAL coats of black on it, to the point of overkill. I figured it would take a lot of sanding to get through the black so I started with 80 grit, and well, little to nothing came off. Then, I grabbed 60 grit, and while it started to come off, it certainly was not penatrating as it should. Looking at it further it became clear the piece was not real wood and her vision of wanting a stained top and drawers needed to change. I reached out to Melanie and let her know the situation and quickly made some suggestions for other "looks". We came up with 3 options. After one iteration, new challenges arose, so I made another suggestion of painting the entire piece in Algonquin and if she wanted further change we could just add on top of the Algonquin.
After painting the entire piece in Algonquin and leaving the hardware black, Melanie liked the piece. During the entire process, Melanie was awesome, trusting and supportive of my suggestions. It was unfortunate she did not get the piece the way she initially envisioned, but I am glad she was happy with the finished product.
Although Napolean was prepared for battle, Melanie and I won the war!!!!
On a side note...if you paint furniture in MANY coats of Krypton Fusion paint, good luck stripping it after.😀
