I think it is fair to call this one "Black Beauty". As stated from a prior post, we found this one sitting on a curb on the way home from soccer. Once seeing it, I did a U-Turn right away. I was shocked someone was dumping this. We immediately loaded my truck and brought it home.
As usual, I saw this piece in Ash MFP and Dark Walnut Stain, but realized I have been going to the well too many times with that combo. I took a massive leap and decided to go with Coal Black MFP and Dark Walnut Stain. I know, I huge departure for me.😀😀😀
We settled on sanding and restraining the inside Dark Walnut and painting the shelf and bottom of the upper cabinet Coal Black to give it some dark moody depth when looking through the glass doors. We also decided to sand and stain the wood between the upper and lower cabinet in Dark Walnut as well to add a bit of detail and transition between the two sections. We sanded and restrained the 3 artsy wood blocks to add some funkiness to the piece. All stained portions of the piece were protected and enhanced with 2 coats of tung oil.
The lower cupboards and shelf inside were spruced up with some wood restore to make them look brand new.
The rest of the piece was painted with 3 coats of Coal Black and protected with homemade foodgrade beeswax.
We loved the original hardware and after cleaning it we sprayed them with several coats of Satin Bronze which makes the piece pop even more.
As shown in the pics, we see this as a cool and trendy bar but the options are endless.
This piece was A LOT of work but it was all worth it. She certainly is a "beaut". We all know how hot MCM pieces are, so let's hope Black Beauty can find the right home asap.
